I remember that my first Trident video cards didn't leave much room for configuration. The user had to set a jumper and maybe tick a box in the user interface. Then, when I bought my first ATI video card, things changed, it had much more than a couple of choices. Nevertheless, NVIDIA was better and offered better interface capabilities (ForceWare driver).
But things changed with the upcoming arrival of ATI's Catalyst Control Center, just when I was about to change sides. This driver will delivered a high performance, more stability, and an easier control on configuration, as well as far more advanced features and functionality from previous conventional drivers.
This driver is one-click installation capable, but it can also be configured one step at a time. The Wizard is helpful if you don’t have many doubts or know what you want. The Display Configuration includes the following: screen resolution, refresh rate, color depth, cloning, display rotations, and more. The wizard also configures PC or HDTV settings, 3D settings, and video settings in just a few simple steps.
There’s something that caught my attention, ATI Catalyst automatically detects software problems affecting the graphics accelerator and recovers by automatically resetting the graphics processor and avoiding a system reboot (I think it’s only available for Windows XP).
To sum up, ATI has improved a lot from previous versions but still has to make a little and yet significant progress to step up to NVIDIA |

- If you happen to have a problem with your CDrom, it takes a lot to download, even with a broadband connection. User is needs this driver to take full profit from the video card.
